Top UFC Flyweight Fighter Receives Surprise Release Following Recent Fight Cancellation

The flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has lost one of its best fighters.
1WIN confirmed today (Tuesday, November 1, 2022) that former #4 ranked UFC 125 pound Askar Askarov (14-1-1) has been released from the promotion. The Bullet was scheduled to fight Brandon Royal last month (October 15, 2022) but had to pull out of the fight due to weight loss issues.
Over the weekend, Askarov asked to be released from promotions via Instagram due to recent health issues.

Assalamualikum, due to the fact that my return was delayed, for health reasons and this was my last fight under the contract, I asked the UFC to release me,” Askarov said. “To which I received a positive response. First, let's put our health in order, and then we'll see what and how.
Askarov's departure comes after the UFC released eight other roster members yesterday. In addition to Askarov, middleweight candidate Krzysztof Jotko was also fired.
Kai Cara-France is currently the only person to have beaten Askarov in the octagon, with a unanimous decision victory over the Russian in March 2022. a draw he fought for against current interim title holder Brandon Moreno in September 2019.

Askarov's last two victories were his biggest: Joseph Benavidez retired after the triumph of Alexander Pantoja. According to his statement, a strong fighter may not stay in the UFC forever, but he will clearly take some time out of the sport to get his health in order.
